Zoom, Zoom…SFC Motorsports!
By Sean Smith
Santa Fe now harbors over 50 unique clubs, each representing a different clique within the student body. Whether you’re a runner, a painter, a movie maker, or anything in between, you can find your brethren inside the walls of SFC. Until recently, some of you four-wheeled fanatics may have been feeling a little left out. Fear not, adrenaline junkies, for SFC Motorsports has arrived!
Introduced by students Steven Bailey and Brett Jennings, and guided by Dr. Karim Diff, SFC Motorsports is a new Santa Fe College organization for individuals who live for the open road and love the smell of gasoline in the morning. As a new club, they are always looking for new members to add to their roster.
“If building the ultimate off-road vehicle and pushing it to its limits on the most extreme terrains while racing others from around the world interests you in any way, then SFC MOTO is for you!” said Club President Steven Bailey.
Signing up is easy! Just attend a meeting. SFC Motorsports meets in room I-29 every Tuesday at 3:30pm. Members need no experience, just a will to succeed and a need for speed (and mud). To be an “official” member (“official” meaning you get access to the garage and a sweet t-shirt), all you need to do is help out with fundraising.
Sounds easy and fun, right?
Here’s a little more about SFC MOTO to better inform you before you show up at the meetings: This club will be fundraising and designing for most of the spring and for summer and fall, they plan to start building vehicles. SFC MOTO will be competing against over 210 universities from around the world in the 2011 SAE Mini Baja series in May.
For examples to what they are formulating in their garage, google “SAE mini baja” to see for yourself. You’ll seriously be missing out if you don’t…
