On Tuesday February 9th, Santa Fe’s Student Government hosted Create Your Own Valentine in the P building breezeway from 10am-2pm.

They provided colored construction paper, stickers, glue, markers, colored pencils, glitter, paint, Valentine’s Day inspired stencils and scissors that cut fancy designs so that students could stop by and make free Valentines.

Spin ArtThey also had frisbees that were placed into a machine that spun them in a circle. The “artist” applied different colors of paint from above creating cool tie dye patterns and the spinning disk.

Next to the arts and crafts table, there was another table which provided condoms to draw awareness to the importance of staying protected during the season of love. They had cards with condoms that had phrases taped on them like, “The right selection is to protect your erection,” “If you love her, wear a rubber,”and “Si no se ponte, nose monte.” They also handed out some chocolate treats along with bumper stickers which read, “Just wear it!” and “Pontelo”.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t a big turnout due to the cold and rainy weather. Several students stopped by briefly between their classes to pick up some condoms, a few either joking around or blushing as they did so.

Another 20-25 students took the time to make either a Valentine or a frisbee. Due to the low turnout and the unfriendly weather, the students running the tables decided to pack up early and end the gathering around 1pm.
